Frequently Asked Questions

  • Occupational therapists (OT) help people do the things they need and want to do in their daily lives. This can include tasks like getting dressed, cooking, working, or playing. OTs focus on improving skills, finding new ways to do things, or using tools and equipment to make tasks easier.

    For example,
    - If you are experiencing symptoms of pain and discomfort when working at the computer, you may benefit from an ergonomic assessment. An OT may be able to make physical adjustments to your workspace contributing to poor working postures and recommend specialized office equipment to prevent future aggravation of your symptoms
    - If you are suffering from cognitive challenges, an OT will tailor a cognitive rehabilitation program to retrain your cognitive faculties
    - If you are having difficulties performing housework due to an injury, an OT may recommend assistive equipment to reduce the physical demands of performing housework

  • If you have been injured in an motor vehicle accident (MVA), then your insurance may provide coverage for OT services. If you already have a medically confirmed concussion diagnosis, then there’s a good chance OT services will be covered. All ICBC typically requires is a medical note from your doctor recommending OT services.

If you do not yet have a medically confirmed concussion, please give me a call and I will complete a free concussion screen with you. If a concussion is suspected, then I will communicate with your doctor to confirm the diagnosis and obtain medical endorsement for OT services if your doctor also deems it necessary.

  • If you are under an insurance claim, your insurance provider will cover the services at a pre-determined rate. No extra fees will be charged to you.

If you have extended health benefits, you may also be covered for OT services.

The current going rate for private OT services is $150/hr. However, rates can be adjusted depending on the type of service or arrangement you are looking for. For more information, please call to discuss the specifics of your situation.
